Tinctures are the product that we have been making for the longest and we love them so much. A tincture generally refers to an extract of a medicinal herb that has been made with ethanol (drinking alcohol) as the primary solvent. Our tinctures are made with organic cane ethanol that we dilute with water as needed to provide the correct ratio of ethanol/water to best extract the phytochemicals of the various types of herbs.
We love tinctures because the are easy to store, easy to take, easy to transport and easy to make. Almost all of our tinctures are made with fresh plant material within minutes to hours of when the plant is harvested. This means that the plant material is still alive when it is extracted which, we believe, provides a certain vitality to the medicine that is impossible to reproduce with preparations made from dried plant material. The colors, tastes, and smells of fresh plant tinctures are much more vibrant than those made from dried plants. In some cases it is important to dry the plant before tincturing in order for it to be medicinally active and in those situations only we will shade dry our plant material and promptly upon drying turn it into tincture.
While the tincture making process is in many ways very easy to do, we continue to learn more and more subtle aspects to the process.
